Select One¶
A list of options that you write into the question. The user picks one.
The options are fixed. They are part of the question, not records in a table. When the options are records that your team adds and edits, use a Relation instead.
Use it for¶
- A closed list that rarely changes, such as Yes, No and Unknown.
- A scale, such as Good, Fine and Poor.
- A category with a handful of values, such as the type of a facility.
Example
A question about the quality of a training session has three options: Good, Fine and Poor. To make the answers easy to average later, store 3, 2 and 1.
| Label | Value |
|---|---|
| Good | 3 |
| Fine | 2 |
| Poor | 1 |
Settings¶
Every question has a Name, a Label, a Placeholder, Help Text, Required and Skip Logic. See Adding a question. Select One adds the option list.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Label | What the user sees. Required. |
| Value | What 3D stores. Required, and unique within the question. |
| Add option | Adds a row to the list. There is no minimum number of options. |
| Delete | The red button at the end of a row removes the option. |
There is no default option and no way to reorder the options. On the web the list is sorted by label. In the 3D app the options appear in the order you entered them.
If the form has extra languages, translate each label on the form's Translations page. The value is never translated.
Validation¶
Required is the only rule. A Select One question with exactly one option and Required on is answered automatically on the web.
Combinations that matter¶
- Skip Logic on another question compares against the stored value, not the label.
- A hidden question with a value uses the option list to set the fixed value. See Hiding a question.
- A calculated field reads the value.
quality >= 2 ? 'Pass' : 'Fail'compares the stored number. - Changing a value after data is collected breaks the records that hold the old value. Their cell shows blank, and an export shows blank in both columns. Change the label instead, or add a new option.
How it looks¶
On the web the question is a dropdown. In the 3D app it is a list with a round button for each option.
The question's settings, on the web:

The data¶
| Where | What you get |
|---|---|
| The record | The option's value, and a Display companion that holds the label. |
| The data table and Views | The label. |
| An export | Two columns: name (label) and name (value). |
| A formula or Skip Logic | The value. |
The Display companion is filled when the record is saved. If you rename a label later, the old label stays on existing records until each one is saved again.
A CSV import matches the file's cell to an option by value first, then by label. Use the value in your file.
Related types¶
- Multi-Select is the same list, where the user picks several.
- Relation picks a record from a table instead of a fixed option.
- Toggle is a switch for a plain yes or no.
