Step 2: Invite Your Team

In this step you add one field worker to the project and give them a role. A role is a named set of permissions. The role decides what the person can see and do in this project.

Every new project comes with a set of roles. The tutorial uses two of them.

Role What it allows
Project Administrator Everything in the project, including roles and users. You have this role, unless you are a system administrator, who needs no role.
Data Collector Complete forms and submit data, and nothing else.

See Roles and Permissions for the full set.

For the example, the field worker gets the Data Collector role. They can complete the Farm Visit form and nothing else. You can change any role, or add your own, on the Roles & Scopes page. See Roles and Permissions.

Add the user

  1. In the main navigation, under Administration, click Users.
  2. Click Create user.
  3. Enter the person's Email and click Next.
  4. If the email is new to 3D, complete the User Details: first name, last name, a username, and a password. Click Create. The password is temporary. 3D emails the person a link to set their own, so you do not need to tell them this one.
  5. Under Role & Access, click Assign role and choose Data Collector.
  6. Click Finish.

Note

If the email already belongs to a 3D user, 3D skips step 4 and shows a notice. You only assign the role. One person can have roles in several projects, and a different role in each.

3D emails the person a link to set their own password. The link is valid for seven days. Once they have set it, they can log in to 3D on the web and in the 3D app with their email or username. See Users.

Check what they see

Open the Users page. The list shows the people in this project with their role. The field worker appears with the Data Collector role.

What you have

  • One field worker with the Data Collector role.
  • You still have full access to the project.

Next: Step 3: Build a form.
