Term Meaning
About page A project's notice board, edited on the web and shown in the app. See Projects.
Auto Calculated v2 A read-only field that 3D works out from a formula. See Input Types.
Base table The table an Interface is built around. See Interfaces.
Cascading Select One question with several levels, each filtered by the one above, built on a View. See Input Types.
Dashboard Charts and tables built in Metabase and shown in a project tab. See Dashboards.
Data table Where records are stored. One row per record, one column per field. See Data Tables.
Dimension A reference table used to split data for scoping, such as Districts. See Groups and Data Scoping.
Display fields The fields that represent a record wherever it appears outside its own table. See Data Tables.
Field A column in a data table. The same thing as a question on the form.
Form A set of questions that writes to a data table. See Forms.
Group A named set of users with a scope on each dimension. See Groups and Data Scoping.
Inheritance Filter A chain of questions where each answer filters the next question's options, driven by a View. See Inheritance Filters.
Input A question, as configured in the form builder.
Interface A page built around one record, with cards and lists of linked records. See Interfaces.
Matrix Field A table inside a form, where each row becomes a record in a linked table. See Input Types.
Metabase The analytics tool inside 3D where dashboards are built.
Nested Form A repeatable set of questions, or a picker of several existing records, inside a form. See Nested Forms.
Organisation Your company or programme. It owns users and projects. See Projects.
Permission One thing a user can do in a project, such as View Data. See Roles and Permissions.
Project The container for one piece of work: tables, forms, views, interfaces, dashboards, roles. See Projects.
Question What the user sees on a form. The same thing as a field in the table.
Record One row in a data table. See Records.
Relation A field that links to a record in another table. See Input Types.
Role A named set of permissions. Every user has one role per project. See Roles and Permissions.
Scope The rows a user can see, set through groups and dimensions. See Groups and Data Scoping.
Separator A heading and a paragraph that mark a section of a form. See Forms.
Skip logic A condition that decides whether a question is shown. See Skip Logic.
Snapshot A stored copy of a View's rows, rebuilt daily, so a large View opens fast. See Views.
Submission One completed form as it arrived at the server. It becomes a record when approved. See Submissions.
System administrator A user who manages the whole platform, across every Organisation and project. See Roles and Permissions.
View Several tables joined into one, for Cascading Selects, Inheritance Filters and reading related data together. See Views.
System id The unique id 3D gives every record. You see it in the last column of an export, in the second column of an exported Relation field, and in the join picker of a View.
