Integer

A whole number. The user cannot type letters or a decimal point.

Use it for

  • A count, such as the number of children in a household.
  • An age, a year, or a quantity of items.
  • A height, a weight or an area in whole units.

Tip

Put the unit in the label, such as Height (cm), so every answer is in the same unit.

Settings

Every question has a Name, a Label, a Placeholder, Help Text, Required and Skip Logic. See Adding a question. Integer adds these.

Setting Description
No formatting Shows the raw number in tables and on the record page. Off by default, so 10000 shows as 10,000.
Validation: Min, Max The smallest and largest answer. Type a number, or pick an earlier number question on the same table. See A limit that is another question.
Prefix, Suffix Text shown before or after the value in tables and on the record page, such as $ or kg. They do not appear on the form.

Validation

A wrong answer shows a message under the question and the form does not submit.

Rule Message
Min or Max A message that names the limit, such as "The number must be 10 or less".
Min or Max that names another question "The number must be Children in household or less".
Required, with no Min or Max "The field must be an integer" when the answer is not a whole number.

When the limit names another question and that question is blank, the form shows a warning and lets the user continue. Set the other question to Required to make the limit always apply.

Combinations that matter

  • Skip Logic on another question can compare the number: equals, not equals, greater than, less than, and so on.
  • A calculated field uses the number in arithmetic. price * quantity multiplies two number questions.
  • An answer of 0 counts as "not answered" in Skip Logic. A question that shows when the count "was answered" stays hidden for 0.
  • A Range is the same number with a slider. See Range.

How it looks

On the web the question is a number box. In the 3D app the box has minus and plus buttons that step the value by one. The prefix and suffix do not show on either.
